year old girl alerted them to the apartment. we are kept outside of the apartment. you concede that the hayward police cars are still here. here is video and police stated the this began at 9:30 p.m. last night when she called to state that her parents were fighting he was privy to kill her mother. the disk masters heard them arguing in the background.an officer fes safety and he shot the suspect. >> we have the child describing what was going on. she was given the dispatcher on account what she saw happening. the child i observed her father with a knife. when they heard what

the teenager was beaten, robbed and sexually people watched. they face 33 years to life >> mountain view police say the 21- year-old woman reported missing tuesday night has been found safe. melinda alexander, who is not from the bay area, was last seen at a gas station on north shoreline boulevard in mountain view on tuesday evening. police say she had been in an argument with her sister before she was dropped off at the gas station without a cell phone and her identification. alexander was found safe in san mateo county last night. >> this just in. the number of americans seeking unemployment benefits has dropped 15,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted

>> the national transportation safety board doesn't have much information to go on, as it investigates the crash of a u-p-s cargo plane in birmingham, alabama. so far officials have been

unable to retrieve the flight data recorder or the cockpit voice recorder from the wreckage. also investigators say it appears there was no warning before the deadly crash the plane took off from louisville, kentucky, and crashed just before five a-m on wednesday it approached birmingham- shuttlesworth international airport. the n-t-s-b says the plane clipped some trees and crashed into a hill, ultimately stopping on a street that runs parallel to the airport. the n-t-s-b are still trying ot figure out what caused the crash. >> the tail section of the aircraft is still smoking. for that reason we have not been able to get in and get the black box, the voice or quarter and the date talk or quarter. >> authorities are confident that they will be able to retrieve the plane's flight data recorders, which are critical to their investigation. the pilot and co-pilot were

jesse jackson junior was sentenced to 30 months in prison for for a scheme to in campaign money. jackson pleaded guilty in february to using campaign money for personal expenses that included buying michael jackson memorabilia, furs and a rolex watch. jackson's wife, sandra jackson got 12 months in prison for filing false tax returns. jackson's father, a civil rights advocate jesse jackson senior, said his son is very sick. >> medical examiners are taking center stage in trial of the hasan. so far, doctors who examined seven of the 13 killed have described how some showed signs that they were shot while lying on the floor of a medical building at fort hood in november 2009. after a frenetic four days in which more than 60 people testified, the pace has slowed as prosecutors have called investigators and experts to describe how hasan carried out the shooting. hasan acknowledges the evidence against him shows he was the shooter and has put up a minimal defense.

traders and investors take their summer breaks. the major indexes have drifted lower in the past week after climbing to all- time-highs at the start of the month. here's a look at yesterday's closing numbers. the market fell as poor earnings from macy's cast doubt on the outlook for consumer spending. the dow fell 113 points. the nasdaq dropped 15. and the s-and-p 500 fell eight. >> new data show that the u.s. is on track to end the year with the fewest homes repossessed by lenders in six years. foreclosure listing firm realtytrac says lenders repossessed just under 37,000 u.s. homes last month. that's down 31 percent from the same time last year. rising home prices and a gradually improving job market have helped limit the pace of homes first entering the foreclosure process. >> the obama administration is making changes to the plus

loan program that may help thousands of families qualify for the college financial aid. the education department says it has expanded support for families that have recent but small-scale debt. they may now become eligible for plus loans through appeals. parents and graduate students who use plus loans have no borrowing limit, but they face interest rates higher than on most federal student loans.obama-student >> american airlines parent amr corp. plans to ask a its turnaround plan that includes a merger with us airways, even though the federal government has sued to block the deal. the hearing had been expected to be one of the final steps before amr could close the merger and exit bankruptcy protection after nearly two years. but amr could spend several more months in bankruptcy court while it fights to save the merger. the u.s. justice department and six states sued to block the deal, saying it would hurt competition and cause consumers to pay higher fares. >> cisco systems is cutting

up a little bit of slowing for the mammoth.mimicked. mimic >> we're following a developing story out of hayward this moring. an officer involved shooting has been reported at an apartment complex on tennyson avenue just after 9:30 last night. joining us live now is kron 4's mike pelton. mike what's the scene like out there this morning? >> what you are seen as family and friends who have shown up this morning. the authorities have been here for the past nine hours and it appears that will remain on the scene. here is video from earlier this morning. a 12 year-old girl called police because her parents were fighting. they stated that the dispatchers could hear the argument and is sent the officers to the

complex. when they arrived, the daughter notified the police that the father was armed with a knife. this is what police said happen next. >> when the officers arrived they entered the apartment and they were met in neatly with a knife. the male suspect came and a threat in manner and officer discharged as a weapon. he feared for his life. the subject was struck, transported to hospital and he later was pronounced a deceased. >> hayward police stated that all the officers involved have been with the force more than five years. officer that fired will be placed on paid administrative leave. this is standard procedure. i spoke with the other three people inside the apartment included the 12 year old girl and is that they're all ok. >> we are now just a few hours away from learning when the new eastern span of

the bay bridge will open. there is some hope that the bridge could open labor day weekend. but there is also the possibility that the opening could be delayed for months because of broken safety bolts. the announcement from the toll bridge oversight committee comes two days after federal transportation officials signed off on a temporary fix for the cracked seismic safety bolts that have threatened to delay the opening until at least december. the fix involves temporarily installing steel plates in the area of the broken bolts to help prevent movement during an earthquake while long-term repairs are done. >> state senator mark desaulnier.represents a large portion of the east bay. he's also the chairman of the senate transportation and housing committee. desaulnier belives the new eastern span of the bay bridge should open as soon as possible. however he thinks it's time to take a look at how caltrans operates. who should be held accountable for their mistakes

federal action applied only to the two couples who filed the federal case. and the counties in which they live. the state supreme court >> after more than three-years of debate, a new "l-g-t-b" homeless housing project is expected to get the green light. the san francisco city planning commission is set to approve a permit for the 24-bed expansion of an existing shelter on south van ness avenue. a recent survey of the city's l-g-b-t homeless say they didn't feel safe or welcome in many of the existing shelters. that survey also found that 29-percent of the city's homeless population say they are gay. the new shelter is expected to cost about 550-thousand dollars and planners hope to open it's door sometime next year. >> sprang to help stop the spread of the west mile
